A doctor examines you in your room and can give you medicine on the spot.

What the doctor does for a fever

  • Asks about your symptoms and examines you in your room
  • Tests for influenza and COVID-19 when your symptoms suggest it — results during the visit
  • Gives you medicine to bring the fever down and treat the cause, on the spot
  • Explains how to rest, drink fluids and what to watch for overnight
  • Advises whether you should go to a hospital
  • Issues a medical certificate and receipt for your travel insurance

Fever with these symptoms

Our doctors often see travellers with fever together with chills, sore throat, cough, body aches, headache, or vomiting and diarrhoea. Long flights, jet lag and a change of climate can all make it easier to catch an infection while travelling.

If you need a PCR test for travel, the doctor can take the sample in your room. The result is sent by email the next day and the test is charged separately.

When to call 119 instead

If the person is unconscious, has difficulty breathing, is having a seizure, has severe chest pain or is bleeding heavily, call 119 for an ambulance. 119 is free and answered 24 hours a day. A house call is for illness that is not an emergency of that kind but is too difficult to leave until morning.
